| Customer Reviews: Not an easy construction job, very fragile January 9, 2010 William Anderson (York) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My mother gave my son a very similar product for Christmas so this was the 2nd one I constructed in the last 2 weeks, so I had some experience. The motor is not problem. The cardboard body is glued together with double sided sticky tape, which is fiddly in the extreme. The pieces provided are far too big for alot of the flaps. It is very hard to align things exactly enough. We got to the end and the moment of truth was short lived as the thing fell apart and stopped. My son looked at it for about 30 seconds then wandered off to see what his brother was doing. Admitedly he is 7 and the toy recommends 8 and over, but I would not recommend it.
Poor quality and defective January 1, 2010 Ms. S. E. Latham (Essex, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After purchasing several Science Museum toys this Christmas and spending time making them together with my son and his grandad, we found this just DID NOT WORK.
Poor quality, flimsy and defective - what a way to put children off science.
This does not deserve the Science Museum logo it bears.
The Intruder Alarm similarly did not work.
I am in the process of returning all the items, so I can purchase alternative gifts.
The only item I will be keeping is the Strength Ball.
A good idea let down by poor construction December 26, 2009 J. Richards (Kent Coast, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
After a couple of interesting hours building the robot, was very dissapointed to discover that the way the gears were aligned meant the motor was unable to move them. The whole gear apparatus was jammed solid. No way of adjusting them to free up the motion, so we are left with a pile of gears...not good. May be down to a rogue batch, but not good all the same.
It should also be noted that the body of the robot is made from thin stiffened card, so not the most robust construction, not a surprise at this price, but worth being aware of.
