A good game but with design flaws July 26, 2010 Baby Doll (UK) In my experience Elefun is fun for children of upto around 10 years of age but is ultimately more suitable for younger children - I wouldn't recommend buying for anybody over 7 years of age.
My overall opinion is that this is a great game, which is fun for all the family. My daughter and her cousins (all currently under 6 years) get really excited when the butterflies start fluttering around the place and can usually be heard shrieking and screaming with delight! The educational aspects of this toy are that it can help with co-ordination, catching and learning colours. However this game sadly has a few design flaws.
The first issue is that there needs to be more butterflies provided as each game only lasts around 15 seconds and once the game has finished you need to scramble around on the floor and pick them all up again. If there were double the butterflies, there would be double the playing time and therefore double the fun. A tip to solve this problem is to make extra butterflies yourself from coloured tissue paper.
The second issue is that a couple of butterflies always seem to get stuck inside the trunk, this can always be solved by giving the trunk a little shake but can become a little bit tedious, especially for children. Also, when the batteries start to tire the fan slows down slightly and has problems blowing the butterflies out.
My last little niggle is that after setting each game up and flicking the 'on' switch you must straighten up the elephants trunk perfectly (this needs to be done really quickly as the 'on' button sets of the fan inside the elephant). If the trunk is not perfectly straight the butterflies won't blow out properly. Young and inpatient children will probably need some help straightening out the trunk at first (it's 4 foot tall and quite awkward) but should soon get the hang of it.
I recommend this toy if you have patience and are prepared to make some extra butterflies to throw into the mix! After weighing up the positives and negatives I award this game a 3 out of 5 star rating!
my nephew and niece love it April 2, 2010 P. Robinson (Derby, UK) Well as said the kids love it, I got it for them for Christmas and they still play with it, they had one previously I think it now lives at the grandparents house so they can play with it there. It's not too messy as far as games go and it keeps my 7yr old nephew and 3yr old niece entertained, I also saw they for sale in Asda which seems to be a good deal, if you buy this I don't think you'll be disappointed... unless the batteries run out :P
I was warned.. February 26, 2010 A. Gonsalves Took ages to get working and set up and never really worked properly. Child got bored quickly and never used again. Too much trouble for so little fun!
Better in theory than practice February 15, 2010 Book Worm (South-East England) This is a brilliant idea in principle. However I agree with the other reviews that some of the butterflies do get stuck in the bottom, which results in having to wiggle the game slightly. The children love it as it's quite exciting when they pop out but the butterflies aren't expelled from the elephant's trunk as quickly as we would like. We have also found that the air alone (after a short while) does not straighten the elephant's trunk to allow the butterflies out without some manual help. Overall a good game if you are prepared to put up with this.
Lots of Fun January 19, 2010 Judi Hunderfund (Tomkins Cove, NY USA) My daughter loved this when she was younger. Now I have purchased it for my niece who is 4 & she loves it too. What's not to like about catching butterflies in a net? It's even fun just to dance around the elephant while the butterflies fly all around you. I highly recommend it.
