Relive those happy childhood memories of watching Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin's classic series Bagpuss with this pair of musical soft toys, which are just as likely to appeal to a new generation of Bagpuss devotees. The duo comprises Willy, who is kitted out in red trousers and a natty floral shirt, and Millie Mouse, sweet and appealing in her tartan skirt and white blouson, prettily tied at the neck with a white ribbon.
They both measure approximately 17 cm (seven-an-a-half inches) high and are made of soft grey plush with grey felt paws, machine-embroidered eyes and have a knotted cord tail. Willie and Millie are sponge clean only.
Fans of the series will recall the mouse belief system encapsulated in the phrase "Mice not sing--mice not work"--and these mice love to sing! Squeeze their tummies and you'll hear a rousing rendition of a Mouse song set to the traditional "Frere Jacques" tune. Squeeze Willie and Millie simultaneously and hear them sing the song as a (slightly out of synch) duet in rodent stereo.
The pair does come with batteries, which the manufacturer recommends as having an average life of six months, although unfortunately these are not replaceable. Please bear in mind that battery life will be considerably less if they are in constant use. --Alison Drury
