Like Marmite - You'll love or hate this. October 13, 2008 debbie8355 (Devon, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This toy is the equivalent of marmite. Two of my children, 3 and 8, love it and one, 6, hates it. I love it and my husband hates it. There is no middle ground. We had a child who brought a packet of this stuff with them for a sleepover. I hadn't seen any of the adverts so I had no expectations and just followed the instructions. Basically they just slid round on a 6cm layer of what looked like marmalade but they loved it. It wasn't so much gelli bath and gelli puddle, slide around and then shower. DO NOT BUY GELLI BAFF UNLESS YOU HAVE A SHOWER as it is impossible to clean the stuff off the kids otherwise. I have used gelli baff half a dozen times - mainly for kids sleepovers. I wouldn't recommend it for birthdays or any time you are in a hurry as it does take ages to clean the bathroom and the kids afterwards and be prepared for combing goo out of hair. We always use 2 packets and in our water area you can add more water than the instructions advise. It does thicken up after 5 minutes or so. For 2 packets make sure you fill the bath (plus essential bath mat) to waist height first and then evenly sprinkle the power over the bath surface. I have a child stand at each end of the bath and sprinkle the power over their half of the bath. Don't sprinkle the powder high up else you end up wth rather worrying dust clouds. Also never put one sachet in mix, than add more water and another sachet. If you do that the second sachet will not mix and ends up as hard, horrible lumps. The dissolver is just salt (I think) and doesn't turn the goo exactly back to water so a shower is necessary. I also find it quite drying on the skin so use a moisturiser afterwards. My 3 and 8 year old love it and it is a huge hit with 8/9 year old sleepovers. They stay in the gelli bath for ages and the goo retains the heat so they don't get too cold. I can see why others hate it though: dust, lumpy goo the consistency of wallpaper paste (nappy water holding crystal technology), small volume if you use one packet, doesn't all dissolve afterwards and the dissolver turns the bath salty, goo crystals everywhere to clean up ... Really I should hate it but it is so much fun.
Other reviewers ar a bit thick! September 21, 2008 G. G. Thain (Surrey.) I agree you need 2 packets for a decent bath ammount but my kids have been playing for 3 hours in this stuff, as for making the bathroom slippery RTFM as for needing more for hard water again RTFM.... the dissolver does with it turns it back into as it came and it can be washed away. You can always add more salt!! There are some idiot reviews on here :-p
Money down the Drain. July 17, 2008 Ms. C. COOPER (Spain) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I agree with all the other negative reviews my son pestered for months for this and I finally gave in while ordering other things for his birthday.. but what a big dissapointment NOTHING like jelly just a horrible mess. My kids kept asking why it was like that( a grainy grimey mess.)Pricey and little play value.Spend your money on other things is my advice.
Complete let-down May 25, 2008 Mrs. L. T. Lovatt (Hampshire, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As with all kids, mine wanted desperately to try this product, so I paid up my 5 for 1 bath's worth ( very pricey - but for a treat would be reasonable, if it worked). I followed the instructions to the letter & the result was a disgusting granular feeling in the water. Both of my kids stuck their hands in & instantly decided they were not going to put the rest of their bodies in it as it felt so nasty, after really looking forward to a bathful of thick gooey, gloop. A total waste of time & money. I would not recommend this product at all.
rubbish & unhealthy January 29, 2008 champion the wonder horse (luxembourg) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
There is absolutely nothing good about this product. Steer clear. You have 4 inches of water in the bath. The 'goo' is granular, rather than jelly. It did not feel good on my hands after a few minutes (stirring the bath) so I don't like the idea of this on my daughter's skin. It also makes everything slippery, so a risky proposition with tiled floors. And it was disappointing for my daughter as it bears no resemblance to the advert: deep bath, thick jelly, fun, etc.. It is none of those things, just 4 inches of granular gloop. I cannot emphasise enough: do not be tempted to try this. *** incidentally, take a look at the positive reviews for this product here. They are all suspiciously the same and the reviewers only have a single review. This is just deception.
