Better than Bumbo November 26, 2008 Mrs. K. J. Baiely 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We love this chair. We had to wean our son early at 14 weeks under professional advice but high chairs weren't suitable, it also wasn't ideal to use the car seat or sofa. This seat solved all our problems, our little boy was able to sit unaided in the chair, fully supporting himself, he was comfortable and happy in it. We use the tray and plastic mat for meal times as they're wipe clean so it doesn't matter what is dropped on them, the toy is great for entertaining baby while mummy or daddy are busy and is bright and stimulating, great for encouraging their hand eye co-ordination. The removable pommel is a brilliant idea as it means you can remove it to easily put your little one in (or take them out of) the chair without having to force them in or twist their limbs like you do with the Bumbo, it needs a fair bit of force to click it into place but this ensures that baby will not be able to remove the pommel. There aren't safety straps but the chair is designed so that babies weight combined with their position will keep them in the chair, no chair like this should be used on a raised surface anyway so the need for safety straps isn't present. It's durable, versatile.......an absolute godsend, feeding our little boy is so much easier using the Bebepod but i can also leave him to play knowing he's safe and secure.
bbPOD - Very good December 26, 2007 Sally Simpson (Soms. UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Reading the other review on the bbPOD didn't seem to add up to my experience of this product. We bought this for my son and he was sat in it at around 3 months, the toy was great and at 10 months he's still playing with it. i bought it to teach my son to sit upright, and it was an excellent tool for first stage weaning, i could sit him up on the table or any other surface, (attended of course) and feed him as he was a little too small for his high chair. the place mats i have are indeed plastic and funky too. The mushroom part at the front, i too, thought to be faulty until one day i pushed quite hard and it clicked into place properly, once you realise you can push hard there is no way my little one can tug it off. this is a great travel item, i often put it in the car and take it to friends houses when i need to feed him or want him to keep still for 5 minutes! My only complaint now is that my son rolls himself out of it and crawls away, but short of getting velcro carpets and rompers for him, i dont think anything is going to stop him from doing this. Overall a good little product.
Overpriced rubbish. August 18, 2007 A. Degnen (Brighton, UK) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
We bought this chair for our 5-month-old son thinking that it would make a good chair for him to learn to sit up in while eating food with us. Firstly, there are no straps to secure it to whatever surface you sit the chair on, so really the only safe option is the floor. The seating position looks quite awkward for him; he never looks as though he's sitting straight in it. The protective mushroom that fits over the catch mechanism for the table is too loose of a fit; he can pull it straight off now at 6 1/2 months with little effort. The detachable table itself fits well, although you must have a the chair on a flat surface otherwise any flex in the chair itself will make fitting the table quite tricky. Bearing in mind that at some point the table will need washing, it's a shame that the manufacturer didn't decide to use stainless steel fixings; one of the screws is already rusted and beginning to stain the underside of the table. The two removable table covers that we used when feeding our son lasted about two or three meals before the cardboard became water-damaged. I'm amazed that cardboard was considered to be a suitable material rather than plastic. Even if you don't let your child eat whilst using the table, it will want to chew the corners of the covers (they lift right off as they're not held down). If you buy one of these chairs, make sure you cover the carboard parts with some waterproof stickyback plastic first. On the plus side, the toy that comes with the Bebepod is excellent - our son loved spinning it (and trying to put the ends in his mouth of course!). Overall, I'm very disappointed with it and regret spending the 45 (seems like a lot of money for a rubbish chair and a cool toy). We've since replaced it with a Fisher Price equivalent for just over half the price of the Bebepod that so far seems to be actually made for the job! He sits up nice and straight and because the chair has been designed for mealtimes the table and safety straps arrangements are excellent. To sum up: overpriced, under-specified and not very good. if you want something to help your child to learn to sit up, use the floor and some cushions. If you want a high-chair (or rather, low-chair), get a Fisher Price Booster Seat.
