Product Description
Following on the heels of the best-selling Leapster learning game system, the new Leapster2 handheld is the next generation of learn-everywhere gaming from LeapFrog. Like the Leapster learning game system, the Leapster2 handheld offers a robust learning experience through built-in tutorials and learning levels that adapt automatically to your child's pace. Its touch screen and stylus help develop motor skills used in writing, while its compact design makes it easy for kids to play on the go. It's also compatible with all 30+ Leapster learning games, so kids can practice a wide variety of skills for school as they play and learn with their favourite characters. 4 - 8 Years

5 out of 5 stars Great for children   January 5, 2009
Book Addict (U.K)
I replaced my two daughters (4 & 6) leapsters with the new Leapster 2. All the old games work on the new Leapster...agt times they do not recognise them abd all i do is reinsert them and they are fine, this only happens now and again. The only thing is this model does not come with a screen cover, however my daughters didn't use the covers on the old leapsters so i am just going to use some screen protectors. I do not have any problems about re-calibrating the screen on either of the models. This is ideal for younger children and a much cheaper alternative to the D.S and games can be picked up cheap on ebay. My daughters have had a Leapster for over a year now and still play with it as much as they did then. RECOMMENDED!

4 out of 5 stars What a great gift this turned out to be   January 2, 2009

This Christmas I was absolutely baffled as to what to get my 4 year old sister however thanks to a bit of luck I got this. Like all sensible adults I checked out the product for myself and found it to be rather enjoyable. To enhance the experience I further purchased a game to accompany the gift; Disney Princesses - Worlds of Enchantment. My initial thought was my Christmas gift wouldn't win over her other toys on Christmas day however after the festivities she may enjoy the educational qualities. However I was wrong, she absolutely loved it and wouldn't put it down! She's now had it 8 days and I've already replaced the batteries once she's been on it that much!On the point of battery power I have to say I was impressed the console informs you of dwindling battery power. The only reason I have given this only 4 stars is because the accessories are only just becoming available and I urgently wish to purchase a charger (preferably in Pink to match the console) and a carry case (in Pink again).

I purchased this console in late October and at that point the online learning path was not yet operational however I received an email stating the learning path is now up and running and I have yet to hook it up so see how's my sister is progressing, however the key to this is bargaining with her so she'll let me have for 2 minutes!

All in all a great console; educational, engaging, fantastic graphics, pre-loaded games first rate, and extention games enhances the experience.

1 out of 5 stars Typical Leapfrog quality   January 1, 2009

Like all the Leapfrog products my son has had, the quality is dreadful and attention to detail is awful. Right handed use only, and a screen that freezes every other time it is turned on!

The games themselves are okay, but actually all the same really.

Pathetic really. Get a simple PC educational games program instead.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for my 5 year old   December 30, 2008

My son loves the Leapster 2, he had been asking for a PSP and now calls this a PSP. The pre-loaded games are fantastic, my son loves the colouring - loads of features such as adding rain or snow to your pictures. The Star Wars cartridge game is also brilliant - a good balance of maths and playing. I've read reviews complaining about dodgy touchscreens - have had no such problems even though 5 year olds are not the most gentle with a stylus and touchscreen. This has been a big hit and I would recommend it to anyone with a young child who is asking for older kids stuff like a DS or PSP.

1 out of 5 stars Don't bother - spend the money on a DS instead!   December 27, 2008

What a waste of money! My fairly intelligent 4 year old soon got bored of the simplistic repetitive instructions and then when the (faily boring) games get started the screen has poor graphics and isn't very responsive. The game soon got ditched for other toys and she was back borrowing her sister's DS Lite to play cooking mama etc. I wish now I'd have invested a little bit more to buy another DS as they have(pound for pound)more sophisicated technology which means more choice, more responsive gameplay and better games.
