Great fun to build! December 29, 2008 M. Davis (London, UK) I bought the engine kit as a Christmas present for my girlfriends 12 year old son and what a wonderful three hours we had putting it together! Ok its not perfect, yes the fit of some parts is a bit "sloppy" and the cam belt is fiddly....much like the real thing actually! As a means of teaching the basics of how engines work I havent seen anything better, the whole family got involved in the engine "masterclass". Well worth buying.
No problems here! December 10, 2008 Andrew Lincs (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this engine for my 8 year old daughter who wanted to know how car engines worked. Suffered the same confusion as the first reviewer, the instructions are not that clear regarding the timing 'cog' but it does go on and works well once you work it out! I thought it was a great project and my daughter now knows haw a car engine works. Now trying to find the Jet engine .....
It does not work July 29, 2008 engine near (UK) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
The assembly of this kit went quite well. The instructions were followed and no major problems until you go to fit the timing belt. Dissaster. First the belt was mis-shapen and would not fit over the cogs. There was no way it would work. The other point to notice was that the cogs had far too much play (30 degrees)on the shaft which did not allow the timing to function at all. Everything stopped at this point. Could not complete the project and no way to contact support. It is still there with no sign of it being completed. I know it is plastic, but it should at least work to some degree. I have the jet engine to build next with the granchildren, hope that goes better.
